As a Patriots fan

by anderson on Feb.09, 2010, under NFL

I really couldn’t be happier with the outcome of the Superbowl.
There’s not much else to write in this post, although I might add that the spectacular way in which Manning managed to throw a touchdown to the Saints was the best way to end that game.

In other Superbowl news – apparently Megan Fox had to use a thumb double for her sexy commercial – I’m speculating that it’s because there were issues with Manning’s agent.

That thing looks distinctly like Peyton Mannings head.

Friday equals pregame jitters – Patriots versus Dolphins

by anderson on Dec.04, 2009, under NFL

I never used to be one of those guys. You know, the guy who can’t shut up about his favorite sports franchise. The guy for whom Sunday – or any random game day – is the most important day of all. And more importantly for whom preparation for Sunday starts midweek, just like the football team and their midweek practice following a game.

I’m not quite as bad as that. But come Thursday of any given week, I get that creeping feeling and realize that I’m starting to become one of those guys. I love football. I might as well come out of the sportsfan closet right now. And I specifically love the New England Patriots (feel free to leave comments about cheating, tainted superbowls etc, I’m mf’ing bulletproof). Solid team, team spirit, good organization and so forth. It’s not just about the Superbowls (although the Lombardis do help when the topic is trash talk).

This week we’re (yes, it’s that bad) playing the Miami Dolphins and it’s probably going to be a tough match up, just because that’s usually how it is in Miami. It’s an important game, too, because of the loss to the Saints and because a win will all but guarantee a spot in the playoffs whereas a loss will make the Dolphins smell blood (what the hell? Dolphins are supposed to be cute) and make every game for the rest of the season important and thus ulcer-inducing. I’m really not sure I’m ready for that.

So I have a feeling that I’m driving the wife nuts with all this game talk, but since she’s also a Patriots fan (even if to a lesser degree) she’s being a good sport about it. For now I’ll just have to try to push it to the furthest reaches of the back of my brain and live in total denial for two days. Denial that Sunday really can’t get here fast enough.

New England Patriots get crucified.

by anderson on Dec.01, 2009, under NFL

This won’t be a long post at all, but I thought I might just detail the level of anguish I felt along with other New England Pats fans last night.

That was one sloppy display of football and while I do think the talent on this new team can overcome it, man that stung. For all the talk of statement games, the statement the Patriots made was, well, not the one I was hoping for.

Going to go sport a Maroney jersey today. He did good!
